Our Beginnings

In some ways ours has been a hit-the-ground-running effort in the midst of a pandemic that’s sickened and killed thousands of people and distanced us from each other in our home and work and public lives.

And in another way the formation of IFPHA was yet another stage in the marathon that the founders have been running their entire adult lives to support and find justice and equity for communities excluded from or dismissed by mainstream care, services, and support.

Founded in May 2020, The Institute for Preventive Healthcare & Advocacy intends to promote optimum health for all residents of Buncombe County and surrounding areas by addressing the social determinants of health and the inequities in access to affordable and preventive healthcare.
